E-Learning

Modesto City Schools offers a variety of learning opportunities that involve the online e-learning approach. The e-learning applications in our programs use APEX Learning online course-ware and most are structured in a blended learning model combining online curriculum with adult interaction and guidance. Use of online curriculum through e-learning primarily serves the purpose of credit recovery at Elliott Alternative Education Center, in the Turnaround Opportunity Schools -- TOPS (Gregori & Johansen High Schools), in the G230 Academy, and through the District’s Extended Summer School and Summer School programs.

The benefits of e-learning include flexibility and student choice in how they progress through the curriculum, the ability for students to work at their own pace and review material if needed, media-enriched and interactive technology, and the ability to focus on one or two courses at a time. The reporting capabilities of the course-ware allow teachers to monitor student progress and respond or intervene with extra support when necessary.
